Peripheral Neuropathy
PN peripheral neuropathy is a degenerative disorder of the nerves (usually of the hands and feet) and has many causes including traumatic injuries, infections (neuritis), metabolic problems and exposure to toxins. One of the most common causes is diabetes, and many cases are due to auto-immune disorders, but frequently, the cause of neuropathy cannot be identified. PN Peripheral neuropathy often causes symptoms of numbness and pain described as burning or tingling. Physicians use a number of medications to reduce the painful symptoms of peripheral neuropathy. Some cases progress and are resistant to medical therapy, making it difficult to manage symptoms. There is hope that mesenchymal tissue matrix supplementations will mitigate some of the degenerative effects of neuropathy.
How can tissue matrix supplementation therapy improve the symptoms of peripheral neuropathy?
Mesenchymal tissue matrix supplementations from umbilical cord produce:
Proteins that support the growth and survival of neurons
Angiogenic factors that are essential for the healing, growth, development, and maintenance of blood vessels
Immunomodulatory substances that kick up your own immune system which then can reverse the damage to the nerves.
In 2015, researchers published the results of a study using umbilical cord tissue matrix supplementations to treat patients with diabetic foot gangrene due to peripheral neuropathy. Results showed procedures with tissue matrix supplementations was safe, and patients had reduced pain in the limb, cold sensation was reduced, and clinical symptoms were improved. The ulcers healed gradually and the patient’s quality of life improved.
“MSC transplantation is a new technology that can be used to treat the diabetic feet and legs as with arms and is a well-studied topic in the field of angiogenesis.
MSCs have high proliferative and self-renewal capabilities in addition to the ability to differentiate into multiple types of cells including damaged nerve cells that cause Neuropathy.
Treatments may include:
- Mesenchymal tissue matrix supplementations derived from human umbilical cord blood
- Antioxidant therapy with vitamin C and glutathione
- Ozone therapy
- Platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP)
- Regeneration-Repair- Restore
- In short Regenative medice deals with natural ways to heal our bodies, including neuropathy.
Umbilical cord tissue is shown to be structurally similar to articular cartilage and other soft tissues throughout the body. There are many components of WJ that are beneficial for transplantation. The most prominent of these components is the ECM (extracellular matrix), a collagen-based, crosslinked network that adds tensile strength and distributes load, making it an excellent choice for patients with musculoskeletal injuries. Wharton’s jelly (WJ) allografts consist of human umbilical cord tissue that has been disassociated, suspended in saline, and cryopreserved. Their main function is to replace missing or damaged tissue in the patient, applied directly to the defect, or injured area, in soft tissues. They are applied via syringe and are typically used in ligament, muscle, or cartilage tears.
